It seems the major hair trend from the 2012 Met Ball was the slick back! Bring back the mousse as the wet look seems to be all the rage when paired with an assortment of stylish chignons. From Kate Bosworth's classical braided bun, Gwyneth Paltrow's centre parted up do, to Gisele's matchy-matchy slick back that was fashionably coordinated with beau Tom Brady.
Not only does this type of hairstyle help accentuate the beauty of a rounded shoulder and collarbone, but it also helps us look younger. Pulling back the hair from your face in a tight elastic is like giving yourself a mini face lift. Beautiful actress Rosario Dawson had her chignon done by one of the greats, celebrity hairstylist to the stars Oscar Blandi, and we get the scoop on how to re-create this look ourselves:
Step 1: Prep the hair with Oscar Blandi Volumizing Spray.
Step 2: Blow-dry the hair with an emphasis on the roots to create lift and a solid foundation, but leave the ends of the hair damp.
Step 3: Create a left side part and pull the hair back tightly into a ponytail just above the nape of the neck.
Step 4: Spray the ponytail with Jasmine Protein Mist. Combine a dime size of the gel and a few drops of Jasmine Oil Serum in your hand and run it through the ponytail. This combination will harden the hair and give it the perfect amount of shine on the carpet.
Step 5: Split the ponytail into three parts and braid it; twist the braid into a chignon and secure it in place with bobby pins.
Step 6: Finish the look by spraying Lacca Hairspray all over to keep the style in place.
Step 7: Smile big and enjoy your evening. You look gorgeous and five years younger!
It seems like everywhere I look soap is gracing the pages of many beauty spreads. Soap style cleansers are back in a big way and not just any kind. Black soap is all the rage because of it's ability to heal problematic skin, remove scars caused by acne and an allover great pimple preventer for oilier skin types.
One of the best ones on the market is Shea Terra Organic's Rose Hips Black Soap. Although this is in a liquid form rather than soap, experts say this can be better since soap bars have more of a tendency for bacteria build-up. Customers as well as spa professionals have said they've never seen a product work faster than this one. This 100% natural product is a mix of rose hips and African herbs that are filled with skin renewing and anti-oxidant properties. Think of it as a microdermabrasion treatment without the abrasion or the cost! It effectively and gently breaks down dead skin layers to reveal a cleaner, calmer and brightened skin!
The annual Met Ball is by far the biggest night in fashion with celebrities, models, designers and the 'style set' coming out dressed to impress. Hosted by Vogue magazine, this event is known to be the fashion world's best red carpet event as well as the top social event in New York. If you'd like to attend next years you better start saving, tickets are a whopping $25,000 a pop with all proceeds going to the Costume Institute. Enough of the details, let's get on to the good stuff, i.e who wore it best, who gave good face and who was red carpet road kill….
By far the most jaw dropping, stunning look of the night from head to toe was actress Camilla Belle. She hasn't done to many movies as of late but she is known for her fantastic style and last night she nailed it in a Ralph Lauren Collection ivory tulle beaded dress with champagne python sandals. Truly the "Belle of the Ball' I immediately fell in love with her dark wine stained lip, bronzed cheeks and brooding brows. Get her wine kissed lips with Jouer's Hydrating Lipstick in Phoebe. Kate Bosworth also rocked the typically winter trended dark stained lip with a slicked back braided chignon and flapper style feather dress.
Jessica Alba sparkled in a grecian style, burnished gold Michael Kors gown. One of the few who actually wore her hair down, it still looked elegant with a delicate pin curl set wave and again a dark lip! Are we on to a new summer trend here?
Cutie pie Emma Stone looked absolutely adorable in a red Lanvin dress with custom designed crystal flowers. I thought her hair perfectly matched the playfulness of her dress with a messy up do embellished with a crystal hair pin.
