My husband and I were invited to attend Elton John’s 22nd Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party, a well-known charity event benefiting his AIDS Foundation. Over the past week I’ve shared my countdown to the event with you, including my skin prep and travel tips, and am excited to relive the day with you now in this Oscar recap!
10 AM: In addition to my skin prep essentials I shared with you last week, I popped on skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels to combat any puffiness and stress around my eyes. Although I’m not sure why James Franco looks so much sexier than me in his patches. :)
12PM: Lori Young from Koh Gen Do arrives at my hotel room to get me glowing. Priming with Hollywood set staple, Macro Vintage Royal Massage Milk, Lori used my makeup must-haves Bye Bye Redness and Undereye by it Cosmetics, before applying Koh Gen Do hero products Moisture and Aqua Foundation for a fabulously radiant and natural look.
1:30PM: Time for hair! T3 stylist Linda Zirkus arrives with an arsenal of hair tools to give me the 1940’s Classic Hollywood side-swept locks to complement my one-shouldered gown. Starting with several sprays of refreshing and volumizing Ocean Mist by Sachajuan, Linda utilized both the award-winning SinglePass Whirl Curling Wand and pin curls to build volume and create my red carpet ‘do. LEARN HOW TO GET THE LOOK HERE!
2PM: Lori is finishing my makeup for the evening. We agreed on a medium smoky eye using the Anna Sui Eyeshadow Palette in Rock Me and a strong cat eye effect created with Kevyn Aucoin Precision Liquid Liner. I insist on Ellis Faas Mascara to compete any eye look; it is pitch black, ultra creamy and easily builds upon itself to create mega long lashes. BY TERRY’s new Cellurose Blush Glace in Flower Sorbet provided a soft coral glow to my St. Tropez tan.
2:45PM: Linda sets my hair with Sachajuan Volume Powder and Strong Hair Spray to keep the curls polished and long-lasting. I apply some Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Skin Liquid Lighting to my neck and decollate to add a subtle glow that catches the light beautifully. Lori pairs my rose gold butter LONDON Goss nail lacquer with a metallic nude lipstick from The Metals collection by Lipstick Queen – aptly named Metal Nude. I toss the tube in my clutch for touch-ups post-dinner.
3PM: The car arrives on time! One quick look in the mirror before we head down to meet the driver. I love how my deep orchid gown, gold accessories, and classic Hollywood glam makeup and hair are all playing off each other. My husband and I pose for pics – and off we go!
3:30PM: We’ve cruised the red carpet and hit the step-and-repeat. Now for the fun stuff! Who did we see? Everyone! Hosts Sir Elton John and husband David Furnish were seated with Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, the gorgeous and timeless Jane Fonda, Ed Sheeran (who later performed), David Foster and his wife Yolanda (from Beverly Hills Housewives).
4PM: We were seated with several familiar faces - The Kardashians! Kim and Khloe were simply stunning in dramatic red, while Kourtney sported a classic tuxedo-inspired suit by Saint Laurent. Other guests included Sharon, Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne, Quincy Jones, Steven Tyler, Petra Nemcová, Neil Patrick Harris, Heidi Klum, Tommy Hilfiger, Eric McCormack, and Russell Simmons. My vote for best dressed? Wearing a backless black silk gown, it would have to be, hands down, Kelly Rowland. She looked absolutely stunning and turned heads throughout the evening.
The event raised nearly $5 million for AIDS education, prevention, and research, and you can still donate to the cause here. We were so thrilled to be a part of this memorable night and, as a movie buff, it was a very special treat for me to be a part of it.

Looking for Oscar-worthy locks? Now you can recreate Lisa's 1940's-inspired classic Hollywood hair at home, using this step-by-step tutorial direct from T3 stylist, Linda Zirkus!
After shampooing with Sachajuan's Volume Shampoo and Conditioner, I sprayed Lisa's clean, damp hair with Sachajuan's Ocean Mist. This product is great for adding volume and texture, and creating long-lasting curls.
Next I used the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i and Vent Brush to dry her hair. I love the the Featherweight Luxe 2i because it dries hair fast and healthy, while reducing frizz and creating lots of volume and body.
After parting Lisa's hair into four sections, I sprayed it with Sachajuan's Volume Powder to give the curls I would be creating something to hold on to, and add even more volume.
Using the T3 SinglePass Whirl Wand around her face, I created soft, natural-looking, S-shaped curls, setting them with Sachajuan Medium Hair Spray. Next, I used the T3 SinglePass Twirl 1.25" Curling Iron to twist the pieces in the back, creating more traditional red carpet curls. To ensure the look would last all night, I pinned the curls to her head to set them, and sprayed her entire head with Medium Hair Spray again as the curls cooled.
After Lisa got dressed in her beautiful, deep orchid gown, I let down the curls, and gently brushed them out. Then more hair spray!
To create shine and luster, I finished the ends of the hair with Sachjuan's Intensive Hair Oil and gently swept the hair to one side. Securing the hair with pins, we topped-off the look with a beautiful gold hair comb, complementing Lisa's other accessories.
Finally, I sprayed the entire 'do with the Sachajuan Strong Hair Spray and added a few curl clips to hold the S-shaped pieces around the face in place until Lisa was ready to leave for the event.

My J Crew leggings are a must for me when flying. I also make sure I wear shoes I can easily slip on and off like these super cute ballet shoes. I’m not a big fan of wearing makeup while I’m flying. The air is so dry that it just leaves my skin and eyes feeling dehydrated and itchy. I prefer to not wear mascara or any makeup for that matter. That being said, I still like to try and look my best.
One of the easiest ways to make myself look more “finished” in a natural way is with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness. I have a ton of redness in my face and this instantly removes it! It’s similar to a foundation, but much lighter and can actually be worn under a foundation. To achieve a natural, hydrated glowy look I moisturize with my Erno Laszlo Hydraphel SPF 15 and finish with a bit of Bye Bye Redness. I finish with some RMS Living Luminizer for a youthful radiance around my cheek bones, chin, forehead, the inner corner of my eyes and the bridge of my nose. This 3 step gives me the hydration, coverage and glow I love.
Since the brow frames the face I don’t leave the house without my Anastasia Brow Wiz to define the shape of my brow and her amazing Dip Brow Pomade to fill in and cover any stray grays. For my lips I smudge on a bit of the Original Rosebud Salve to hydrate and heal my lips. This is a great item to keep in your purse for any kind of instant hydration whether it is for cuticles, elbows, lips and more.
Last but not least my trip wouldn’t be complete without lots of water! Once I’m passed security I fill up my bkr with water to stay hydrated through the flight – especially if I have a glass of wine on board!
Sunday morning a T3 Stylist and Koh Gen Do makeup artist will be helping me get ready for Elton John’s Oscar party! I’ll be sure to share with you all their tips and tricks to achieve my updated 1940’s look!
