Shop NuFace microcurrent devices here!
I'm sure you've all experienced a dose of belly bloat every once in awhile when we've eaten to fast or the wrong foods, however face bloat is a whole other can of worms. Whether you've given into the cravings of salty chips, overdosed on soy sauce or suffering from allergies; depending on your age there are precautions we can take to fight the bloat so you don't face the day as a puffed up blowfish. For women in their 50's the loss of elasticity causes flabby facial muscles so products that increase firmness and build back collagen are going to be your best defense. The October issue of In Style magazine addressed this very issue in 'Say Goodbye to Puffiness.' Their advice for a quick fix in your 50's is the NuFace Classic Microcurrent Facial Toning Device or NuFace Trinity. Low level micro currents are delivered to the skin that induce facial muscles to contract for a temporary sculpted look.
Along with the colder season comes a seasonal closet overhaul and replacement of sandals and lightweight dresses for trendy rubber goulashes and cashmere sweaters, a change up in our skincare routine to soothe skin experiencing a brisker environment, and foregoing our floral fragrance for something a little more….chocolatey? Yes indeed, with the change in season comes a need for a complimentary fragrance. Our goal is to help you find it in our Fragrance Flight Vol. 2, a bespoke collection of 6 fragrance samples selected by perfumer Yosh, whose smoky and oriental scents are guaranteed to raise your body heat this winter. An exclusive 20% coupon code* is also included in case you find your new signature!
Every season we look forward to Yosh's insight into what will be on trend as well as answers to questions only one of the best 'noses' in the industry would know. We hope you enjoy another round of 'Scents & Sensibility' with Yosh!
What should you consider before you begin looking for a new fall/winter perfume, to make sure you pick the one that's right for you?
Normally, I would say that one might consider their climate first. I live in a place where winter is very mild so I prefer to wear a yummy fragrance with a little bit of smokiness but if you live in a climate where you have to wear a proper coat, gloves, scarves, then something more enveloping and warming might be better. This year, I'm going to pick my fall / winter fragrance based more on the kind of statement I'd like to project. I feel rather embolden now because I've lost a bit of weight and my hairdresser and I have come to agree on my look - more rock star glam. So for me, personally, I'm going to wear a fragrance that reflects an edgy opulence.
What aromas will be on trend this fall/winter?
Oud will continue to trend but creamy woody notes will make us feel grounded yet luxurious. Energetically, when people feel unstable, people choose more comfort fragrances. During the holidays, people tend to be a little emotional so something that makes us feel taken care of is how we want to smell. Vanilla will always be a great fall/winter choice for people. But I think people will want a little naughty vanilla - something with leather and spice.
Does the cold weather affect the way we wear our fragrance?
Absolutely ! Some people live in a climate zone that's mild in the winter. They might not need to wear something as heavy and spicy as a person living in very cold temperatures who might want something to feel like a warm cashmere wrap. In the winter, boozy fragrances make us feel warm inside too.
I recently heard that the perfume wearing tradition of rubbing your wrists together after application can destroy the scents quality. As a chronic wrist rubber I have to hear straight from the perfumer's mouth if this is true?
I think people in the industry are divided on this one. I personally like to rub the wrists together to release the scent - like rubbing petals or leaves together.
Can selecting the wrong perfume age you?
Gosh - great question. I think perfumes can age you in both directions. Just like tight jeans and short skirts. Some fragrances tend to be more youthful whereas some fragrances are more mature. I find young teens wearing heavy perfumes trying to be more sophisticated and some cougars wearing shocking or to fruity scents because they don't care what is age appropriate.
Yosh began her perfuming career in 1994 as an apprentice, learning to identify and combine the healing essential oils and sensuous perfume essences in each of those bottles. Today Yosh uses these elixirs in her own modern practice of the ancient art of perfumery, creating signature scents that entice the senses, fascinate the mind and enchant the soul.
Every season I look forward to seeing the latest fashion and beauty trends seen on the runways at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. From the crazy monobrows, sultry cat eye, to the big bouffant hair, there's always a certain look that catches my eye and I know I'm going to be attempting to recreate it at home. However, with that comes its trials and tribulations if you don't have the exact brands that were made to take these models from ordinary (ok, not all of them) to extraordinary. Our latest giveaway answers all those problems by giving alway the very same products used to create some of the hair, nails and makeup looks seen at the Spring 2013 runway shows. Without further adieu, these are the items one lucky winner will take home in this $400 prize:
Butter London was responsible for many of the gorgeous nails at Erin Featherston, Kaleen, Band of Outsiders and more. Our favorite look was the cosmic inspired nail seen at VEDA. A mix of Sloane Ranger, Toff, Knackered and Union Jack Black worked together to create a celestial effect with a sharp, glossy black stripe for a geometric effect. All of these are part of the prize!
T3 hair tools are well respected by hair professionals and customers alike so it's pretty easy to surmise that it's the go-to brand to create gorgeous hair at the shows. This was the case at the J. Mendel Spring 2013 show which was all about the strong female with polished and shiny hair with dented waves. The first step to create this was the T3 Featherweight 2 hair dryer. One lucky winner will win this before its even launched on b-glowing! It delivers lightening fast drying while reducing frizz and amplifying body and shine.
If there's a makeup brand that's meant to be seen on the runway its Ellis Faas. Highly pigmented shades and bullet style packaging makes it convenient for a busy model or everyday woman on the go. Used at indie fashion designer Keo's show, you'll be able to win three of the items used: Creamy Eyes in E107 in neutral greige, Ellis Faas Eyeliner in E501 and Milky Lips in L205.
Skyn Iceland's natural skincare range is perfectly suited to prep models skin before makeup application for it's ability to instantly soothe and revive stressed skin. One of the items that is a before the runway staple is their Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels. A favorite of stylist Rachel Zoe and "The Doctors' tv show, these eye pads are an efficient way to de-puff and reduce premature eye wrinkling in just ten minutes!
The beautyblender is pretty much guaranteed to be seen in the hand of every single makeup artist at every show or photoshoot. This simple egg shaped sponge allows for a photoshop worth foundation finish and it's dome like shape also allows for easy contouring of the nose and under eye area. It creates the perfect canvas for the rest of your makeup.
The 'Before The Runway' giveaway will run from Monday, Sept 24th 2012 through October 1st, 2012 at 9am PST. Enter the giveaway by clicking here. Each person who enters the giveaway will be subscribed to the b-glowing newsletter via the email address they provide at entry.
