A lot of people underestimate how hard it is to find a foundation. It's like a second skin so you want it to feel like a part of you and finding that perfect facial companion is trickier than it seems. Although choosing a foundation is totally based on personal preference I've gathered a few of my favorite standouts to help you navigate through the endless choices of a woman's go to cosmetic product:
Ellis Faas Skin Veil Pen has made it through my checklist for numerous reasons. For one, the silky smooth, barely there formulation covers up flaws and leaves skin looking incredibly radiant. Secondly, for those who don't want to use fingers or a sponge, the application of this product is made so efficient due to it's applicator brush that allows you to get in between nostril curves and facial contours. Minerals diffuse light across the skin's surface reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles!
Although I'm not technically able to call it a foundation, Jouer's Luminizing Moisture Tint is more like a tinted moisturizer but gives great coverage if you have unproblematic skin. It evens out uneven skin tone and also camouflages fine lines with light diffusing ingredients while also protecting from harmful UV rays with SPF 20!
Christened the makeup foundation for dummies, By Terry's Light Expert Perfecting Foundation Brush is an anti-blemish, anti-shadow and anti-dullness formulation that instantly illuminates the face. It's featherweight texture can be deceiving because it actually gives deceptive coverage and hyaluronic acid microspheres work to plump up wrinkles for an instant lifting effect.
For those who like a thicker coverage, a staff favorite as well as Kim Kardashian's is Kevyn Aucoin's Sensual Skin Enhancer. Housed in a tiny jar, we prefer to apply this product with fingertips rather than a sponge due to it's thicker consistency and ability to warm it up by massaging it through your fingertips for better application. It can be used as a concealer or for the perfect highlighter as well! One thing you can rely on is complete coverage at all times. Our suggestion is that less is more with the Sensual Skin Enhancer. Apply to a freshly moisturized and primed skin and apply more as desired.

This is definitely Marilyn Monroe's year. Even in death her signature style and glamorous flair warms our hearts and leaves us with many unanswered questions. Although she was definitely gone to soon the girl had a timeless taste in fashion and beauty that we still aspire to today. Marilyn entrusted her beauty regime to a select few brands who maintained her silver screen worthy skin. The August issue of Allure magazine pays tribute to this amazing woman through gorgeous photographs through memory lane and an inside scoop on what products transormed Norma Jean into Marilyn. A couple of her go to favorites were by Erno Laszlo, one even found on her nightstand at the time of her death.
Dr. Erno Laszlo treated Marilyn's skin throughout her career, even going to the lengths of creating a custom made product, Phormula 3-9, to fade a scar on her stomach. Filled with tamaru and marine collagen extract, this intensive nourishing balm reduces redness, puffiness and smoothes away wounds and burns.
Erno Laszlo's Active Phelityl Cream is an intensive moisturizer that protects and nourishes the skin for a full 24 hours. It's no wonder Marilyn would put this cream on before she went to bed and left it as a reminder on her nightstand. Safflower seed oil improves skin's elasticity and a unique moisturizing complex with a PH nearly identical to the skin helps to maintain the fatty acids for essential skin function.

Even men need a little extra help when it comes to choosing grooming products that are right for them. Luckily for us, they're slowly realizing their 'metrosexuality' and with that comes an interest in great skincare and shaving products. I happen to feel a great sense of pride when my husband lets me know he's out of his exfoliant, and it's just darn cute. Our latest addition to the men's category is a brand out of NYC, The Blind Barber.
The Blind Barber redefines modern manhood with their return to the 'roaring twenties' and the era of the modern gentleman. With shave as well as hair products in the range this is a brand that is inspired by fashion, music and lifestyle. The chic black and white packaging and signature scissors has an air of old school feeling to it and a time when every man went to the barber to get his clean, close shave. Although the range is small, that is the genius in it because men don't need a ton of options, just a few products that work for every guy. Some of the standouts are:
Blind Barber 90 Proof Hair Pomade is infused with hops (yes, like beer) that is protein rich for effortless styling and leaves hair with a workable matte finish. No need to reapply throughout the day the pomade has a very strong hold!
Blind Barber 60 Proof Hair Wax is also infused with hops and has a nutrient rich formulation to keep hair in place without weighing it down. In comparisons to the 90 proof, this has a medium hold for semi control. Hair might possibly have a bit of movement rather being unbudgeable.
