The ingredients that make for a great day of skiing – sun, wind rushing by your face, high altitudes and cold temperatures – can do a real number on your skin. Below, we examine how each of these elements damages skin. We also provide recommendations on how to protect your skin before heading to the mountains, and how to best nourish it after a hard day of skiing, snowboarding or sledding.
Red, irritated skin is a common aftereffect of a snow play day. When wind blows on the same patch of exposed skin over the course of a day, windburn can occur. Like sandpaper tearing up wood pulp, the friction imposed by wind can chafe your skin and, in extreme conditions, cause blistering.
To protect your skin against the wind, be sure to apply a moisturizer before leaving for the resort or trail. Ultra Comfortable Face Cream, by Nuxe Paris, is an excellent choice. It contains Vitamin E and sunflower derivatives to protect against wind and other external irritants.Read More »
Kim Kardashian has graced many a magazine cover and she has quickly become known as a fashion and beauty trendsetter for the tweens and twenty somethings. This Armenian beauty is rarely seen without makeup so it was interesting to see her bare it all for the cover of March's Allure magazine. Typically, Kim is always "done" and on her reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians she is constantly seen getting primped to perfection by her own personal hairstylist and makeup artist. However, after her short lived nuptials to Kris Humphries, she secluded herself to the privacy of her family, cancelled bookings and made a two month vow to give all that up and just be her, au natural. Although she lasted a little less than 60 days, we won't hold that against her.
For someone who's face and hair is most of the time in the hands of someone else it was really interesting to read about Kim's favorite beauty products to use when she's on her own. Like clothes, Kim's fabulous taste also extends into the beauty realm where she mentions a few of her must have's such as Kevyn Aucoin's Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX 05 (which she uses as a concealer) and applies it with the BeautyBlender, an egglike sponge that gives a flawless and airbrushed foundation application. Bellisima!

Orange peel, lipedema, cellulite, cottage cheese – whatever you call it, one thing’s certain: No woman on the planet longs for more cellulite. It may surprise you to learn that the term “cellulite” is not medically inspired. It gained popularity in French salons around the end of the nineteenth century, and it describes the bumpy, dimpled, inconsistent appearance of the skin above fat deposits.
Doctors say cellulite is actually quite natural – they say this uneven skin surface is found in 90 percent of post-pubescent females and that it simply indicates a breakdown in the connective tissue around fat cells. Cellulite is more noticeable on the female form because female skin tissue is thinner than male skin tissue. Still, it’s hard to convince women to simply accept their cellulite as a natural occurrence. Society has long derided “cottage cheese ” skin as ugly and undesirable.
Fortunately, those who wish to banish cellulite may do so by applying the techniques listed below.
Cellulite is exacerbated when one’s fat cells are swollen with extra sugar. Salt is also problematic because it encourages fluid retention, making cellulite look even worse. To limit the appearance of cellulite, eat no more than six teaspoons of sugar and 200 mg of sodium each day.
To see a noticeable reduction of cellulite, apply a firming lotion or cream. Of course, you’ll want to select a product that’s user-approved to firm skin and improve its structure. Nuxe Paris has created a lotion that fits the bill perfectly. Its Body Fondant Firming Cream includes barley sugars and Brazilian mimosa to instantly lift skin, thereby decreasing cellulite dimples. Nuxe Paris’ cellulite solution also contains rye flakes and Kigelia Africana to improve skin structure. After using this product for 28 days, 86 percent of users reported that their skin was more toned, while 82 percent said it was visibly smoother.
To prepare your skin for cellulite solutions from Nuxe Paris and other brands, apply a body exfoliator such as Fat Girl Scrub from Bliss. The Bliss Fat Girl Scrub increases circulation and is specially formulated for cellulite-prone areas.
Muscle is smoother than fat. If you lift weights regularly, your cellulite levels will drop. Lunges, leg presses and squats are particularly powerful cellulite-busting exercises.Read More »

Straight, smooth hair is one of the most popular hair styles among celebrities and laywomen alike. Yet it’s not always easy to transform frizzy, curly locks into arrow-straight tresses. Below, we’ve gathered techniques for achieving the perfectly straight, healthy hair you desire.
Long before Oscar Blandi and Frederic Fekkai started selling their fabulous straightening products, many women yearned for smooth, straight hair. Today, you can still use natural techniques to achieve straight hair.
Nourishing milk straightening treatment. Milk helps straighten hair and combat frizz. Begin with a shampoo; leave hair slightly damp. Comb 1/3 cup milk through damp tresses. Once the milk has coated every hair shaft, massage the scalp for a few minutes. Next, let the milk soak in for about twenty minutes. Finally, shampoo, condition and style as you wish. If your hair is color damaged, use a restorative conditioner such as Russian Amber Imperial Conditioning Crème by Philip B.
The milk bath method works best for those with a slight wave. However, women with curly hair can still benefit from milk treatments, since milk provides hydration and definition for curls. Or you could take the modern shortcut and use Frederic Fekkai’s Ironless Silky Straight shampoo and conditioner. This will achieve even better results with far less work.Read More »

Cosmetics pamper us. They make us feel beautiful. Many women cherish the time spent applying cosmetics; putting on lipstick and slathering on lotions makes them feel luxurious. Makeup and skin care products make us feel we are taking care of ourselves in a special way. Yet many cosmetic products contain dangerous ingredients. Below, we list three unhealthy ingredients commonly found in cosmetics.
While many women have heard the rumor that many lipsticks contain lead, few realize that independent and FDA studies have verified that this urban legend is true. Lead is a neurotoxin that builds up in the body over time. Research suggests that lead poisoning contributes to lowered IQ, increased aggression and diminished school performance. Considering that most women wear lipstick on a daily basis, the potential for lead poisoning is very real.
You may be aware of lead’s toxicity thanks to public education campaigns on lead-based paints. The EPA regulates renovation activities to prevent lead exposure, which is especially threatening to young children, whose brains are still developing. Yet because the FDA does not conduct pre-market testing for cosmetics, lipstick manufacturers are not prevented from putting lead in their products. Fortunately, a few manufacturers now offer lead-free lipsticks.
If you’re looking for a luscious, safe product to nourish your lips following years of lead-filled lipsticks, look no further than Reve de Miel ultra-nourishing lip balm from Nuxe Paris. Safe enough for children aged 36 months and up, this Nuxe Paris product uses grapefruit peel oil as a preservative rather than parabens – which, as explained below, may cause cancer.
How can makeup that's organic and 100% recyclable be so good? Trust us, it can. In a world where cosmetic ingredients are slowly being looked at more heavily under a microscope for their purposes, Vapour Organic Beauty is leading the way in providing makeup that is literally worry free, both on an eco-conscious level as well as from a personal health standpoint. We have been praising these easy to wear and apply formulations that don't sacrifice color or longevity. My personal go-to has been the Aura Multi-Use Radiant Blush since I'm always in a hurry and I love having one product in my purse that will touch up my cheeks, eyes and lips. I'd been waiting for them to venture into nail lacquer so I was thrilled when we got the just launched Vapour Organic Beauty Vernissage 3 Free Nail Laquers in! It looks like Jessica Alba was too since Eternal was the perfect shade to match her lavender Gucci gown this awards show season. Featured in People magazine, this polish is long wearing and chip resistant, not to mention 3 Free which means it doesn't contain carcinogens. If lavender isn't your color then there's a fabulous gray option in Trance!
