The 2014 Winter Games are in full swing, and to celebrate, we’ve gathered a team of products so you can…TAKE HOME THE GOLD! With these gorgeous products, you can stand on any podium proudly (and look great doing it).
Leave your makeup alone as you gently remove excess oil and sweat with this 300-year-old Japanese beauty secret. Your makeup will last longer, courtesy of this powder and prime alternative, so you can look fresh even if you don’t quite feel it. Plus, it’s fragrance-free, powder-free, oil-free, all-natural and biodegradable.
For first-place nails, this gold metallic nail polish will turn heads. Tenoverten is a polish that’s good for the long-term health of your nails, but still has lasting power.
For the blondes (or the brunettes with highlights) this shampoo glorifies beautiful blonde hair, so take home the glory! Blonde pigments enhance hair color as a refresher and aid in the prevention of color fading. While it works great for natural or color-treated hair, it’s not recommended for pale or platinum blondes unless golden tones are desired.
This easy-to-apply eye shadow feels as great going on as it looks after application. The sheer formula goes on smooth and is easily layered for deeper intensity, allowing you to create your own customized look. The shadow is soft and velvety, easy to blend and does not crease.
With these products, you’ll be ready to conquer the competition. Shop these picks now, and grab the gold.Read More »
We are so excited for the Sochi Olympics and have started gearing up with a festive and easy-to-achieve, Olympic- themed mani. Here’s how we did it.
You will need:
• Nail base/Top coat
• Nail Lacquers
• A Sharpie
Step 1: Before you do any designing make sure your nails are clean, buffed, filed and that you’ve applied your base coat. Start with your gold polish and paint two even coats. We really liked using Deborah Lippmann’s Fake It Till You Make It because the glitter suspended in the gold polish is actually green, red and blue, so it ties in with the other polish colors perfectly.
Step 2: After your gold base has dried for a few minutes you’re ready to apply the multi-colored tips that coincide with the colors of the Olympic Rings. We applied these tips manually but if you want a guide, you can use some Scotch tape as a stencil; however, if you are using tape make sure your nails are completely dry.
Starting at the left corner of your nail, carefully drag the polish brush in an arch to the right side of your nail. Try starting very thin with this line, as you may need to go back and straighten it. You can do the tips in any color order you want as long each finger gets a different color. We recommend placing the green and red colors away from each other to avoid any Christmas vibes. We used our Sharpie to do a black tip on the thumb, but you can also use polish or leave it gold.
Step 3: Add your USA pride! This is the easiest part of the mani, as you can draw this on with a Sharpie. Black polish can be used, but using a black marker will make crisper lines. We chose to add our USA to the middle finger to balance the manicure, but you can really do what you like with the pattern. Just make sure your nails are completely dry before drawing any characters. Once you are pleased with your results, lock in your hard (well, this is actually pretty easy) work with a glossy topcoat.
We just know the judges will love it.Read More »

With so many different hair brushes to choose from, it can be difficult to know which one your hair needs. We’re here to help! Learn about a few of the most standard brushes and which ones will work for your tresses.
Paddle Brush – This brush is great for all hair types and is used to either regularly brush the hair with ease or for heat styling. If you blow dry, but do not need a lot of style assistance, the Paddle brush is great for guiding the hair during drying, keeping hair in order and the cuticle smoothed while applying heat. The wide bristles also make it ideal for getting through wet hair with less drag and damage than other brushes with more bristles. Try this Paddle Brush from Mixed Chicks.
Round Brush- This handy brush is used mostly with heat styling but can also be used on dry hair to achieve a rounded or soft look. A round brush, when used on wet hair with a dryer, works to pull wave or kink out of hair’s texture, and will also help smooth the cuticle for a polished look. While the round brush will relax the texture of your hair, you can still create roller-like body by using the cool shot button on your dryer while hair is wrapped around the barrel of the brush.
Varying lengths in hair will also call for different diameters of the brush barrel. With all great beauty tools, practice makes perfect, and round brushing definitely takes a little practice! Try this Round Brush from Philip B.
Boar Bristle Brush – This brush is great for all hair types but especially those with finer, more delicate hair because the bristles pull smoothly to cause less damage and breakage. Boar bristles also work to distribute the scalp’s natural oils evenly through the hair to ends, resulting in healthy ends and less oily roots. They’re also great for smoothing and styling updos since the bristles are close together and soft enough to lay the hair down but not disrupt the style. Try this Boar Bristle Brush from Mason Pearson.
Wide Tooth Comb – You should absolutely have a great comb in your arsenal for detangling purposes. While the most natural instinct with a tangled patch of hair is to mercilessly attack it with any brush in arms reach, vow to take a little more time with your misunderstood mane. When using a wide tooth comb to detangle, start at the bottom of the tangle and working your way up. If you are trying to comb down through the tangle you won’t make much progress and will only push the knots down, causing more damage. So remember, bottoms up! We also recommend keeping one in the shower to help dispense conditioners appropriately to all your ends. Try this Wide Tooth Comb from Mason Pearson.Read More »
We’re so thrilled to welcome two more brands to b-glowing—INDIE LEE and LATHER! Both are fantastic bath + body lines that will leave your skin feeling amazingly hydrated.
We’ve chosen two products from each line that we’re particularly excited about, and we think all of our beauty devotees will absolutely love them, too.
Discover INDIE LEE:
After the age of 23, squalane oil production naturally diminishes (so much for always feeling 22). But this 100% pure, olive-derived squalane oil promotes skin elasticity, diminishes age spots, and boosts cell regeneration and oxygenation. No greasy feeling, no clogging, and no doubt that you’ll love the appearance of dewy, soft skin.
For anywhere on the body that needs a little extra hydration, this balm heals and sooths—hands, heels, and even lips. What’s even better? Since it hydrates hands, the balm has been known to extend the life of manicures. Plus, if you’re a constant hand washer, it’ll help heal cracked skin, with only natural ingredients.
Have your dessert and wash with it, too. Gently remove dirt and oil with rich and creamy cleanser, with a moisturizing finish. Coconut oil provides light moisture while aloe vera provides calming relief to sensitive skin. You’ll feel simply delicious after your shower.
Rub away calloused or flaky skin with exfoliating-powered bamboo. Essential oils work together to encourage new cell production
and impart a light, refreshing scent. It’s the perfect scrub to create soft and supple skin and a sense of relaxation.

As per usual, Zooey Deschanel had some of the best nails on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globes, which gave us some serious nail inspiration. We loved the femininity and simplicity of her nails, plus the added glamour of the gold, so our resident nail artist got to work on a Zooey D-style mani.
Step 1: Apply Your Base
Always start with clean, buffed nails, and apply a base coat for mani longevity, and to protect your nails. We used a sheer beige/pink base to keep the nail look natural and clean. For this we used Tenoverten’s Houston. Two coats will do just fine, and don’t worry about slight transparency.
Step 2: Dots
Once the base color dried for about 5 minutes, we added our gold dots for the centers of the daisies. The tip of the polish brush is quite perfect for making the small, slightly raised dots. Just a few dabs on the nail with the brush will give the desired effect. Make sure to spread them out so you have room to paint the petals of the daisies.
For this we used Lushington, new from butter LONDON’s Boho Rock Collection. Zooey’s manicure has bigger and fewer daises, but we opted for a smaller flower. The choice is yours! These will take longer to completely dry, but after a few minutes you can move on to your next step.
Step 3: Petals
To create the petals we used a small pointed nail brush. For those of you without these tools around, a steady hand and the tip of a bobby pin will work, too. We chose a light blue, instead of white, just to add a pop of color; we used Blue Orchid from Deborah Lippmann’s spring 2014 line.
The easiest way to dip your brush into the polish is to pour a small amount onto a dish. Starting from the gold dot, lightly drag the brush with your petal polish outward. Try to keep them the same length, and don’t crowd too many petals on one dot. Your brush will start to accumulate polish, so be sure to wipe the brush periodically.
Step 4: Gloss
Give your mani sufficient time to dry before applying your top coat—a good 15 minutes, just to be safe. Once dry, apply a top coat of your choice to seal the look and create a high shine. Now you, too, have sweet and sophisticated red carpet nails!

Get your best skin this winter by taking care with five essential steps.
Pre-cleanse: loosens and breaks down makeup to pull impurities to the surface.
• Apply your pre-cleanser to the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin and add a little water to help with distribution. Using the tips of fingers, work the pre-cleanser over the skin in small circles making sure to get the side of the nose and hairline. Work over the face twice and lightly rinse with water. You do not need to completely remove pre-cleanser. This is also a good time to remove any eye makeup. An eye makeup remover may be necessary for waterproof mascaras, but a pre-cleanser will loosen most eyeliners and shadows.
Cleanse: Effectively remove makeup, debris, and environmental build up.
• Apply your cleanser in the same manner you would your pre-cleanser and work in the same directions. Work over the face twice and rinse thoroughly. If you still feel like you have excess makeup a second cleanse can be done. Some people only need to wash their face once a day, and if you are a makeup wearer, do this at night, as you never want to sleep in your makeup.
Masks/Exfoliators: Exfoliate to keep pores from clogging with dead skin cells. Masks can be treatment-based to help fight signs of aging, prevent acne, or help treat other problems.
• There are a few types of exfoliators; some are mechanical (beads, sugar, etc), and some are chemical (typically mild safe acids, such as salicylic), and some are even both. Sensitive skin types will usually benefit most from one or the other but not a combination.
Most exfoliators should be worked over the face in the same manner as a cleanser, but spend extra time on problem areas, such as the sides of the nose and the middle of the forehead, between the brows. These areas tend to accumulate dead skin and oil-causing blackheads.
Pay attention to your skin, and go at your own pace. If you feel that something is irritating, or your skin appears redder than usual, maybe skip a day of exfoliating.
• Masks are pretty fool proof, as you apply them evenly to the face or problem area, leave them on for recommended time, and the remove thoroughly with a damp cloth.
Toner: Works to balance skin’s pH levels and refine pores.
• Some toners are mists, while others are applied with a cotton pad or ball. Whichever you choose, make sure you are covering all areas of the face and neck so that the skin is balanced and ready for any serums and moisturizers.
Serum: These active treatments penetrate the skin’s top layer to combat various concerns.
• Serums are generally used to target a concern, such as anti-aging, dark spots, acne or others, so they should be used in your problem areas. Apply liberally, but also make sure you are concentrating the product to the area needed. Allow serums to dry and settle before applying your moisturizer.
Moisturizer: Lastly, provide appropriate lubrication to ensure healthy and happy skin!
• Moisturizers should be applied evenly over the face and the neck. If you are looking to add sun protection to your regimen, now is the time to do it! Moisturizer should be set and dry before applying any makeup.Read More »
