After going off the pill a couple months ago to try and get pregnant I thought my skin would remain having its occasional breakout, but normal skin tone. Boy, was I wrong. Initially when speaking to friends who'd gone through skin changes due to fluctuation of hormones I thought I was lucky and had somehow bypassed all the acne and oily skin that typically occurs when you go off the pill. Literally one day I was talking about how my skin had remained the same and the next it was like a war had broke out on my face with no hope of surrender. Washing my face became a nightmare, instead of the feeling of smooth skin, it was replaced with rough skin texture and a nagging need to want to start popping blackheads every night. Gross, I know.
When you get pregnant you need to be wary of what skincare ingredients you can safely put on your skin. Your normal routine of highly active ingredients might now be a no-no for the next nine months. Because my husband and I have decided to wait a few months until my hormones level out before we start trying I gave myself the green light and recently purchased some pimple fighting products from one of the leaders in skincare, Peter Thomas Roth. Whether you're experiencing your own battle with acne congestion due to going off the pill or problematic skin in general, here are a few tried and tested suggestions:
Whether you have hormonal skin or not, everybody and I mean everybody can see results when using a Clarisonic. I don't care what one you choose to invest in, the power of sonic cleansing speaks for itself in the thousands of lives it has changed. With special brush heads that work together with gentle vibration to remove blackheads, gently and effectively exfoliate the skin, as well as improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles; this is a cleansing device whose results speak for themselves. Washing your face with your hands will be thought of as the dark ages in no time at all.
Peter Thomas Roth's Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Acne Wash sounds like it will be very drying and cause cracked lips and nose but that couldn't be further from the truth. Gentle yet very effective, this oil free acne wash gives a deep cleanse while 2% salicylic acid helps to loosen sebum, clear pores and prevent future breakouts.
I love a great peel but some can strip the skin to harshly which can then lead to other problems. Peter Thomas Roth's Gentle Correction Pads are a favorite of mine (and Allure magazine) as they won 'Best Peel' in their Best of Beauty awards. With a peach bellini scent, regular use of these exfoliating pads will reduce the appearance of fine lines, clear blackheads and refine pores. I like to them once a week!
A great night treatment is essential to keep all the good work going while you're getting your beauty sleep. Peter Thomas Roth's Acne Spot and Area Treatment is a maximum strength, yet non-drying topical treatment that works quickly on a single blemish or can be used on larger problematic areas to fight present and future breakouts. You could use it during the day but I don't really like to because it does have a sulfur like smell that can be noticed if you get to close to people.
I hope these pimple fighters work for you as well as they worked for me. Remember, if you're pregnant you should consult your physician prior to selecting new skincare products!Read More »

Shop the Kinara skincare line here!
She's one of the most beautiful women in the world and every time we see her in a magazine or film doesn't look a day over 35. What's her secret? With that rich golden skin and crease-free face, I believe part of Halle's secret is great genetics but the other half, which she's admitted in the August issue of Vanity Fair magazine, is Kinara skincare. Her top two favorites that always have a spot on her vanity table are:
Kinara Weightless Moisturizer has a cream base that is ideal for oily skin. For those like Halle who do experience shininess and oil the last thing you want to put on your face is a cream that's thick and feels suffocating. The weightless formula has active ingredients like Vitamin A, lemon and eucalyptus to wake up the skin and boots its ability to protect itself from free radical damage.
The eyes are one of the first areas to show signs of aging so Halle swears by the Kinara Eye Cream. This firming and hydrating cream incorporates anti-inflammatory ingredients to soothe eyes, firm slacking skin and reduce the appearance of those crow's feet. Anti-aging skincare is all about prevention. We might not be able to turn back the clock 20 years immediately, but by using the right products can slow down this process so the next twenty only look like 10. Winning.

Fashion Week is only two days away! I'm sure you have your outfits lined up for all the shows and events like Fashion's Night Out but what about your beauty items? We've compiled a New York Fashion Week Survival Kit filled with our must haves to get you through the long and hot lines prior to a show, stay-put makeup that won't crease, on-trend lacquers and much more!
With so many parties going into the early morning the one product that will allow you to work all day and stay out all night is skyn ICELAND's Hydro Cool Firming Gels. Although we're not advising this as a continual lifestyle as it will wreak havoc on your skin, we will make an exception for this very fashionable occasion. The first area to show signs of fatigue is typically the eyes but these cooling patches will help to firm skin, de-puff bags and all over refresh tired looking eyes and make them good as new!
To get into your favorite show might require a lot of standing around which equals tired legs and aching feet. Mama Mio's Lucky Legs Cooling Serum to the rescue to make sure your legs look and feel great all day long. This mini-spa treatment leaves a subtle sparkly shimmer on your shins and instantly cools and soothes achy limbs.
Frizzies are nobody's friend and you certainly don't want to be fighting that battle during Fashion Week. An amazing outfit and gorgeous makeup can be easily missed when you have hair stragglers blowing in the wind. Serge Normant's Meta Lush Volumizer tames flyaways and gives amazing volume in just a few spritzes on wet or dry hair. Your day will run smoothly, just like your hair!
For crease free eyes you need Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes! With 'bullet' like packaging that is purse friendly and a formulation that will have your eyeshadow stay in place through sweat and humidity, this is a must have for Fashion Week. Speaking of sweat, your brow and forehead is likely to perspire and as soon as you feel dewy pull a Tatcha Blotting Paper out of your purse and gently blot it away while makeup remains intact!
When you're surrounded by so many people in such close quarters you want to be mindful of overpowering perfumes. If there's one that everyone will appreciate it's Gratitude by Zorica of Malibu. This softly sweet and summery scent of grapefruit and vanilla is utterly delectable and best of all is made with 100% natural ingredients of Jojoba and essential oils.
For our nails we look to Color Club's In The Limelight, a purple-blue hybrid that will have you on trend for fall and will definitely get you noticed when you're tapping your hands to the pulsating beat of the music at your favorite show!
Happy Fashion Week everyone!Read More »
