The Benefits of Deep Skin Cleansing

Posted on 03/23/2012

Clarisonic Blue Mia Skin Care BrushWomen across the country are raving about their deep-cleaning rituals. While there are many approaches to deep cleaning – the oil method, microdermabrasion, etc. – Clarisonic and other soft-bristle sonic products are often the most effective, since they don’t include harsh exfoliants, they don’t add oil to the skin, and they’re great for all skin types.

Below, is a list of some of the advantages you’ll see by adopting daily Clarisonic Mia use or a similar deep-cleaning ritual.

1. Remove six times more makeup than manual cleaning.

Most women know it’s important to remove makeup before going to sleep. Otherwise, clogged pores and pimples are likely to appear by morning. Furthermore, when we sleep our body temperature rises and our pores open, meaning dirt and grease can get even deeper into our skin.

A deep skin cleaning solution like the Clarisonic Mia doesn’t take much time – just a minute of sonic soft bristle action will do. In contrast, manual cleaning removes six times less makeup, meaning you’re six times more likely to see blemished, blotchy, dull skin.

Hot Water Evaporation: Why Your Hot Shower May Cause Dry Skin

Posted on 04/26/2012

Clarisonic MiaA long, hot shower should leave a person feeling refreshed, right? Yet oftentimes a hot shower or bath results in extremely dry skin.

Itchy skin that feels tight and dehydrated is not uncommon after a long soak or shower. Although age, sun exposure, overall health and climate factor into this condition, there are also steps anyone can take to minimize dryness caused by hot water. For instance, daily gentle exfoliation with a Clarisonic Mia can remove dead skin cells and open up deeper layers of skin to accept moisturizer, which protects skin against dryness.

Read on to discover why a hot shower or bath can cause dry skin and to learn techniques for minimizing this effect.

Science behind Dry Skin: Hot Water, Evaporation and Sebum

Let’s step back to consider the biology of human skin before we consider why a hot shower may damage it. Skin is composed of several different layers of tissue. To protect and waterproof the skin, sebaceous glands all over the body produce sebum oil. Healthy, radiant skin contains adequate amounts of both sebum (in the inner layers) and moisture (in the outer layers).

Taking the Poof Out of Your Puffy Eyes

Posted on 05/17/2012

Laszlo BluePuffy eyes are a cosmetic ailment a girl faces at least once in her life. Differing from under-eye bags, your eyes can get puffy if the eyelids or corners of the eyes are swollen, fluid retention or if your eyes are dry or itchy. There are several factors that can lead to puffy eyes, including allergies, crying, too much salt in your diet, stress, eye irritation, lack of sleep and sinus problems.

How to Prevent Puffy Eyes

  • Stay away from known allergens.
  • Never use expired makeup or creams on your eyes.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Limit the amount of salt you eat.
  • Prop yourself up when you sleep if you’ve been crying or have sinus problems so fluid doesn’t build around your eyes.
  • Get plenty of sleep.

Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil & Lip Balm in Harpers Bazaar!

Posted on 03/28/2012

Shop the Rodin olio lusso collection here!

Jet setters, celebrities and the fashion crowd have been going gaga over luxury brand Rodin Olio Lusso since creator and stylist Linda Rodin launched it in 2011. Our skin has never been the same and just like a fine wine, it's hard to go back after experiencing that kind of luxury.

The most recent devotee to speak openly about her obsession with it is fashion designer L'Wren Scott. In a great feature in March's Harpers Bazaar on the "Beauty Diaries" of different influential women per age groups, L'Wren voices her love for the Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil, saying it's one of the products she incorporates depending on what climate she's in at the time. Oh, to be a jet setter! No matter, where she is her lips are always treated with the Olio Lusso Lip Balm morning and night, no exceptions.

L'Wren Scott's great taste also extends to her Clarisonic facial cleansing brush, using it only in the summer months and when her hair feels like it's dirty but has no time for showering, she treats it with Serge Normant's Meta Revive Dry Shampoo! L'Wren sees celebrity stylist Serge Normant at his salon but in the meantime she keeps it looking fabulous with his Meta Velour Conditioner and Meta Sheer Dry Oil Finishing Spray

Hormonal Skin Battles - Peter Thomas Roth Skincare

Posted on 08/27/2012

After going off the pill a couple months ago to try and get pregnant I thought my skin would remain having its occasional breakout, but normal skin tone. Boy, was I wrong. Initially when speaking to friends who'd gone through skin changes due to fluctuation of hormones I thought I was lucky and had somehow bypassed all the acne and oily skin that typically occurs when you go off the pill. Literally one day I was talking about how my skin had remained the same and the next it was like a war had broke out on my face with no hope of surrender. Washing my face became a nightmare, instead of the feeling of smooth skin, it was replaced with rough skin texture and a nagging need to want to start popping blackheads every night. Gross, I know.

When you get pregnant you need to be wary of what skincare ingredients you can safely put on your skin. Your normal routine of highly active ingredients might now be a no-no for the next nine months. Because my husband and I have decided to wait a few months until my hormones level out before we start trying I gave myself the green light and recently purchased some pimple fighting products from one of the leaders in skincare, Peter Thomas Roth. Whether you're experiencing your own battle with acne congestion due to going off the pill or problematic skin in general, here are a few tried and tested suggestions:

Whether you have hormonal skin or not, everybody and I mean everybody can see results when using a Clarisonic. I don't care what one you choose to invest in, the power of sonic cleansing speaks for itself in the thousands of lives it has changed. With special brush heads that work together with gentle vibration to remove blackheads, gently and effectively exfoliate the skin, as well as improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles; this is a cleansing device whose results speak for themselves. Washing your face with your hands will be thought of as the dark ages in no time at all.

Peter Thomas Roth's Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Acne Wash sounds like it will be very drying and cause cracked lips and nose but that couldn't be further from the truth. Gentle yet very effective, this oil free acne wash gives a deep cleanse while 2% salicylic acid helps to loosen sebum, clear pores and prevent future breakouts.

I love a great peel but some can strip the skin to harshly which can then lead to other problems. Peter Thomas Roth's Gentle Correction Pads are a favorite of mine (and Allure magazine) as they won 'Best Peel' in their Best of Beauty awards. With a peach bellini scent, regular use of these exfoliating pads will reduce the appearance of fine lines, clear blackheads and refine pores. I like to them once a week!

A great night treatment is essential to keep all the good work going while you're getting your beauty sleep. Peter Thomas Roth's Acne Spot and Area Treatment is a maximum strength, yet non-drying topical treatment that works quickly on a single blemish or can be used on larger problematic areas to fight present and future breakouts. You could use it during the day but I don't really like to because it does have a sulfur like smell that can be noticed if you get to close to people.

I hope these pimple fighters work for you as well as they worked for me.  Remember, if you're pregnant you should consult your physician prior to selecting new skincare products!

Allure 2012 Best Of Beauty Awards - Clarisonic, Rodin Olio Lusso & More!

Posted on 09/11/2012

Every year we look forward to Allure magazine's 'Best of Beauty' awards and this year we're pleased to announce so many b-glowing products made the cut! To be amongst the 249 winners is no easy feat with only the best of the best being chosen. Think of these products below as the must haves, the gold trophies and VIP's of their category. With no further adieu here are your favorites:

Starting off the list we have Klorane's Soothing Makeup Remover Lotion. Included in the best of sensitive skin category, this gentle makeup remover can be used over the entire face to remove all traces of make-up hygienically, soothes irritated skin and decongests in just a few swipes.

Curls are key and if you don't have the right tools that bounce just isn't going to look as good. The 'Best Curling Iron' also happens to be a staff favorite, T3's Single Pass Whirl Curling Wand! With a tapered and clipless barrel, it creates loose and undone waves in seconds. Tourmaline technology and infrared energy seals the cuticle for frizz free finish and amazing shine.

It's no surprise to us that Rodin Olio Lusso's Luxury Face Oil was featured as one of the 'Top Splurges' well worth the investment. A favorite amongst the New York City fashionistas, Tinseltown celebrities and Victoria's Secret Angels, people are going crazy for this face oil packed with eleven essential oils that sink into the skin and instantly hydrate and luminate the complexion.

If you don't have volume what do you have? For some of us, this doesn't come naturally so also considered an essential splurge in Allure's Best of Beauty awards is the Sachajuan Volume Powder. This powder based spray goes on dry, gives a matte finish and beautiful volume and structure instantly. Remember to shake out any excess! We were excited to see the upcoming Clarisonic Aria in the mix as well! We're counting the days until we have this breakthrough product on our shelves!

Eighteen of our products were featured in Allure's Best of Beauty and we're so thrilled! RMS Beauty's Un-Cover Up was a 'Natural Wonder' pick and of course they can't leave out the boys with Art of Shaving's Pre Shave Oil. So many to list we're going to need to do another blog!

The May 2013 InStyle magazine is dedicated to "165 Best Beauty Buys" and we weren't surprised to see some of our favorite products included in the list, as well as throughout the entire issue.

St. Tropez - St. Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Body won "Best Beauty Buy" for the Body Self-Tanner category. We love the healthy, streak-free color this nourishing body moisturizer provides. In addition to providing gradual golden color, St. Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Body is infused with soothing aloe vera to help smooth and hydrate the skin.

Klorane - Winner of "Best Beauty Buy" for Dry Shampoo, Klorane's Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk continues to receive praise from beauty gurus everywhere. Freshen your 'do' with this easy-to-use spray, ideal for travel or post-gym sprucing. Unlike some dry shampoos, this product doesn't leave a white film on dark locks - making it perfect for everyone! Klorane's Dry Shampoo was also highlighted in the "Freak-Out Fixers!" insert as an emergency essential! Also available in Travel Size.

Ellis Faas - Featured in the "Freeze Frame" segment of "What's Now", Ellis Faas Milky Lips in L201 was used on Gwyneth Paltrow's "Pepper" character in Iron Man 3, hitting theaters this summer. The film's makeup artist, Kate Biscoe, chose this shade for Paltrow because it, " … is a true blood red that doesn't look magenta and goes on liquid." Biscoe describes Pepper's look as "classy but not glitzy." We think L201 is the perfect choice for Pepper's red hair and flawless skin.

butter LONDON - In 'Ask the Editor', buttercup-yellow shade Jasper from butter LONDON was hailed as the perfect complement to purple. Try this pairing on nails and toes to keep your mani-pedi color wheel-correct. butter LONDON's oxblood red La Moss was also used on Emily Blunt's nails for her  cover shoot.

Deborah Lippmann - Deborah Lippman's opaque nude shade, Fashion, was chosen as the best nail color to complement olive or caramel skin tones. We love this taupe color on any hand or foot! And it's the perfect pick for spring's nude nail trend.

Eau Thermale Avène - Scoring "Best Beauty Buy" in the Dry Skin Mask category, Avène's Soothing Moisture Mask is a rich, creamy, non-setting mask with intensive moisturizing and soothing care, perfect for dehydrated and overstressed skin. We love that this product is hypoallergenic and minimizes redness.

bliss - Taking home the prize for "Best Beauty Buy" in the Normal Skin Mask category, bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask  delivers Vitamin C and oxygen to the skin while detoxifying and brightening the complexion. We think this product is great for all skin types, and love the instant glow we see after using it!

Clarisonic - Included in both the Anti-Aging and Oily skin categories, Clarisonic won "Best Beauty Buy" for Exfoliator with their Clarisonic Aria product for Anti-Aging skin, as well as "Editor's Pick" for their Acne Clarifying Collection for Oily skin. The Clarisonic Aria gently massages away aging dead cells, while the Clarisonic Acne Clarifying Collection combines a specialized brush head with salicylic acid-infused cleanser to gently prod grime out of pores without irritation.
