Shop Supergoop! here.
From Women's Health to The Today Show, it seems like everyone is talking about Supergoop! - a skin-friendly line of sun protection products free of parabens, petrochemicals, fragrances, and phthalates. We wanted to get the scoop behind the 'goop', so we went straight to the source - Supergoop! founder, Holly Thaggard.
We have seen a ton of Supergoop! exposure in the press. Why do you think your sun care line stands out above the rest?
Supergoop! is 100% dedicated to healthy, good-for-you ingredients and ongoing UV protection research and development. This is what we do day in and day out. Because of this tireless devotion, we believe we do it better than other stand-alone sun care products.
We believe that continued research on antioxidants represents the next stage in sun care development, and look for Supergoop! to be on the forefront of that. We are really excited about the anti-aging benefits of antioxidant-rich skincare formulas. Many of our existing products naturally smooth and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and we look forward to pushing the envelope even more with our R&D efforts to explore the full advantages of antioxidants.
How do your SPF skincare products differ from the traditional SPF products we see at the drugstore?
Unfortunately, drugstore sunscreens contain many controversial ingredients that can be irritating and unhealthy for your skin. For example, Oxybenzone is found in most, if not all, drugstore sunscreen sprays on the market today. While Oxybenzone it is a very effective and inexpensive UV ingredient, it can be irritating to the skin and has even been linked to breast cancer (or found in breast cancer tissue). The Supergoop! line achieves superior UV protection without the use of these unhealthy ingredients. When you consider the price per ounce, the Supergoop! Endless Summer Pump, our most versatile everyday UV lotion, is priced competitively compared to drugstore alternatives that include harmful ingredients, like Oxybenzone.
What are your beach bag essentials when you are traveling light?
We've actually dedicated an entire Pinterest board to sharing our beach bag must-haves! Personally, on my short list, I always have at least one liter of Smart Water, Ray-Ban aviators, a white baseball cap, my trusty Aveda paddle brush for tangles and unruly beach hair, Jawbone speakers, a kite, a few magazines, and of course, several bottles of our new Sunscreen Mists with Vitamin C!
We are excited to introduce your CC Cream, can you explain what this new must-have product offers?
Our scientists combined the functionality of a primer/foundation with the anti-aging benefits often found only in serums. Supergoop! CC Cream contains a proprietary blend of the restorative omegas (omega-3 and omega-6) that together deliver spectacular results and are responsible for a significant reduction in skin inflammation, so that the skin appears more youthful. The CC Cream also delivers protection against aging. As we age, darker skin tones can look ashy, and Caucasians may notice duller skin or more uneven redness. Our CC Cream is intended to correct these problems, so your skin appears more healthy, vibrant, and youthful.
What is Melanoma?
Melanoma is the most deadly of skin cancers. It develops when a cell becomes damaged—usually from UV radiation—and then reproduces without any order or control, eventually becoming a malignant tumor. Melanoma can spread very quickly to other parts of the body if not caught early, which is why it’s so important to check your skin regularly. In fact, when diagnosed and treated early, the survival rate is nearly 100%.
How can you prevent Melanoma?
A person’s risk for melanoma doubles if they have had more than five sunburns at any age, so it’s important to protect yourself from the sun every single day. The most sun damage occurs just by day-to-day exposure, so even if you are walking to the office or driving in your car, you are being exposed to the sun. There are four simple steps you can take to ensure you are always protected: cover up, seek shade, apply sunscreen, and then reapply. And make sure your sun protection is broad-spectrum, which ensures it protects from both UVA-aging rays and UVB-burning rays.
