As the days roll on during the countdown of Fashion Week as always each brand has created a key look that represents what the brand is trying to exude for that season. BCBG was all about the low maintenance girl. Throw your hair in a low pony, whip on some gloss and you're out the door yet still dressed fabulously. From totally minimalist down to a rocker edge there seems to have been a bit of bi-polar-esque looks across the runways...
At the Rachel Zoe Fall 2012 show the girls looked like they were straight out of the 'school of hard knocks' with black, punk rock eye makeup. As a black eyeliner junkie and fan of beauty icon's Bridget Bardot and Marianne Faithful I really fell in love with this makeup although it's not for everybody. This looks focus was meant to draw attention to the eye area and they definitely drew you in with a clearly defined sideways v that was drawn on thin towards the eye's inner crease and then blended out to a tip with more shading around the lash line. This look could be created very easily, all you need is a great neutral beige-pink eyeshadow such as Kevyn Aucoin's Single Eyeshadow in Blush and Noir Cosmetics Long Wear Eye Pencil which will allow you to create the definition. Grab your favorite set of lashes or Ellis Faas Mascara and your eyes are done! Keep the rest of the look minimal by sweeping a soft bronzer across the apples of your cheeks such as Jouer's Mineral Powder Bronzer and a seductive and neutral beige lip with Armour Beauty's Opaque Lip Gloss in Edie.
Voila! If all went well, accessorize with your fav motorcycle jacket and you should look like a girl straight out of the 60's-70's with a bit of a modern edge. If not....thank god for eyemakeup remover.

Smiling is a universal gesture that means the same thing in just about every part of the world – contentedness. But to really sell your smile, you have to smile with your eyes, too. Take a look at da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa.” She barely has a smirk on her face, but the way the corners of her eyes turn upward gives you no doubt that she is happy about something. Smiling is a great way to give off an air of confidence, appear hospitable and convey happiness.
The late makeup guru Kevyn Aucoin believed that all women were beautiful and that you didn’t have to be a Hollywood starlet to look glamorous. Through his books and current makeup line, Aucoin reveals the beauty tips he used on top models and Oscar-winning actresses. One feature Aucoin was always able to perfect was the eyes. With the help of the Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler, you, too, can transform your lashes into the red carpet-worthy look that graced magazine covers for years. The Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler can instantly make your eyes look brighter, as if they’re smiling.

Have you ever walked down the street and noticed a woman wearing a lipstick that just doesn't seem to work for her? Sometimes in those instances it can come down to the confidence or style of the woman wearing it or other times it can plain come down to skin tones. Yes, just like foundations the lipstick you choose should compliment the color of your skin. A good rule of thumb when shopping for the perfect lip shade according to Jemma Kidd is to "test on the tip of your fingers. The skin there is very similar in colour and texture to that of your lips, so will give you a good idea as to what the color be."
If you want to get into the 'nitty gritty' of lipstick shopping I'll break it down for you. If you keep these rules in mind even the brightest or scariest shades can suit you:
Porcelain to paler skin typically have a pink skin tone so will suit colors with a cool base. Scarlet reds, brownish pinks and soft apricots compliment this skin tone very well. Be fun and go with a classic red like Jemma Kidd's Ulimate Lipstick Duo in Scarlett.
Fair to olive skin tones more often that not have more of a yellow skin tone so will suit warmer based shades like nudes and pinks. The right shade can be tough to find these that don't have to much blue or orange in them like the Hi-Shine Hydrating Glosstick SPF 15 in Hibiscus.
But wait! As if to make things even more difficult, some people can have both pink and yellow skin tones which are then considered neutral and can wear both cool and warm based shades. Olive skin tones get to pull off my favorites and one of the season's biggest trends, orange. Try Kevyn Aucoin's Elegant Lip Gloss in Vizcaya.
For those dark exotic skin tones, deep warm shades of red, gold or espresso will look stunning. Stand out from the crowd with Jouer's Hydrating Lipstick in Phoebe, a shimmering bronzed wine.
If you're still unsure what all this means, if you naturally gravitate to cool colors as these best suit you, you will have a pink tone. If the opposite is true and you favour wamer colors, you will have a warm, yellow tone. Class dismissed!Read More »
As we just marked the 10th anniversary of makeup visionary Kevyn Aucoin's death, it's only fitting that we acknowledge what an amazing makeup artist and person he was. Although he is gone, he leaves a strong and lasting legacy through his cosmetics brand Kevyn Aucoin. We've had this brand for a few months and all us staff have our own personal favorites from the range so we were so excited when the Lip Glosses and Lip Mattes arrived!
Kevyn Aucoin's 'The Lip Gloss' come in twelve different shades that leave lips shiny and glamorous without feeling greasy or sticky. They're packed with nourishing ingredients like sunflower seed and lanolin oil. I love the pale pink of Tulapina and the nudie brown of Beaugonia. The Matte Lipsticks go one like velvet and leave lips as smooth as silk. Sound like a romance novel? Trust us, you'll fall in love with these six different richly pigmented lipsticks that leave a matte finish and doesn't smudge for hours. Best of all, you don't have to worry about dry and patchy lips since these have moisturizing agents. Try any Kevyn Aucoin product and you'll quickly see why celebrities and the world's most beautiful women turned to him to make them look naturally flawless.
If you wear the wrong foundation color, everyone will notice. An artist prepares a canvas with gesso before she begins to paint. Foundation is like gesso, helping to prepare your face for a perfect makeup application.
In addition to using the wrong color, one of the most common blunders ladies encounter with foundation is using the wrong type. Here’s a look at the different types and how to use them:
Liquid foundation: Provides light to medium coverage, but isn’t very forgiving if you choose the wrong color, especially if you use a heavier kind. Play it safe with BECCA Cosmetics. A great, can’t-go-wrong BECCA foundation is the Luminous Skin Color because it’s extra sheer.
Cream foundation: The type of foundation you generally find in stick form or in a compact. Because it offers heavier coverage than liquid foundation, it’s vital that you get the color right. One of the best types of cream foundation is Dew Drop Powder Foundation from Kevyn Aucoin, which is a cream-to-powder formula.
Tinted moisturizer: This type of foundation offers the lightest amount of coverage. The Shimmering Skin Perfector from BECCA Cosmetics doubles as a tinted moisturizer. This option is optimal if you already have great-looking skin.
Powder foundation: Offering full to light coverage, powder foundation provides the greatest selection of colors from which to choose. If you have light to medium-dark skin, try the Jouer foundation Replenish & Protect Hydrating Powder SPF 39.Read More »
Foundation. Look for beige, soft pink and tawny tones.
Eyes. Glimmer is hot; frosty is not – it can make you look washed out and sallow. Try out the Kevyn Aucoin Spring Essential Eye Shadow Set in Spring Palette 007, which has this spring’s most-wanted colors in just the right hues, with the perfect touch of shimmer. Smoky eyes are still hot. Instead of going with the traditional super-black smoky eye, consider using eyeliner (at least along the bottom lash line) in a non-traditional color, like dark or olive green, navy blue, dark gray or deep purple.
Blush. The blush colors of the season are peach and light pink. Delicately sweep the blush onto your cheeks for a perfectly flushed glow. You can also use a bit of bronzer to contour your cheekbones and achieve a sultry look.Read More »

Kevyn Aucoin's Loose Shimmering Powder is out of this world. With an easy to use rollerball head, applying eyeshadow is as easy as a quick coloring session, which also limits the amount of fall out particles that usually drop down on cheekbones. All of the colors are gem shades of Jade (green), Lapis (purple) and more! My favorite aspect about these shadows is the iridescence and illumination they give to the eye area as shown perfectly in the example below. The shade is Lapis by the way, my personal fav! The rollerball application also allows you to brilliantly build up color from a subtle wash of color to a bolder pop.

Independence Day is just over a week away and I bet you have the barbecue food ideas in full swing but what about your overall 4th of July look? I like to think of Independence Day as a very toned down Halloween, giving me every excuse in the world to DIY that full size American flag into a rocking skirt or strapless dress. Pay tribute to your country by showing off some patriotic inspired beauty from our red, white and beautiful picks:
Create American flag inspired nails with three important shades from Deborah Lippmann. From left to right: Do Ya Think I'm Sexy (risqué red sequin), Lady Sings the Blues (silver sparkled blue), and Boom Boom Pow (glamorous gold). To create that popular ombre trend you can't go wrong with The New Black's Horizon Ombre Nail Polish 5 Piece Set.
Red lips are an absolute must. In our latest 4th of July beauty shoot (shown far left) we channeled classic Hollywood with pin curls, blue eyeshadow and bright, matte red courtesy of Kevyn Aucoin. With a velvety smooth application and zero fading or smudge, these lipsticks will last throughout the day, perhaps even through that 4th of July hot dog or hamburger!Read More »
I much prefer liquid or creamy based eyeliners than powder. For one, I've had a bad run with powder eyeshadows when I try to be wet my brush and attempt to turn them into a wetter consistency for lining. Although some powder shadows are meant to be able to do this, I still find that after I draw my line, tiny powder particles seem to land on my upper cheeks throughout the day. As I'm constantly touching my face, there have been some smudging 'accidents that make me look I'm going out for the football team. Luckily for me, we just got in some amazing new eyeliners in store!
Kevyn Aucoin's Precision Liquid Liner comes with a felt tip applicator for easy lining or more daredevil accuracy for a dramatic cat eye. It's also waterproof so will hold onto your eyelids for dear life, come rain, sleet, sweat or snow. As it's a quick drying formulation, there's no need for you to not blink for two minutes nor fan your eyes (come on ladies we've all been there).
There's no point investing in a creme liner without knowing you're going to be applying it with an amazing brush. EF | STUDIO's Creme Eye Liner & Precision Point Liner Brush has everything you need for $40. The double ended liner brush is one of the finest engineered brushes on the market making it effortless to apply creamy or water based eye products. The Creme Eye Liner in Kuro has the most luxurious feel and will work for all skin types. It can be used to create sleek, sexy lines or it doubles as a great shadow to create the iconic smoky eye. No smudging, flaking or streaking!
I'm very excited to enhance my eye area with the EF | STUDIO Eye Gloss Transparent which I'm hoping is a much less stickier and tackier version than Mac's Eye Glass. I love the dewy, sensual finish it leaves on your eyes, but not the feeling that your eyelids are stuck. With EF | STUDIO's, it contains moisturizing properties to preserve the natural suppleness of the eye area so it leaves a beautiful wet look to lids without the stick!Read More »
The eyes are the window to the soul and the lips are just as alluring and provacative. We need to take good care of our lip pillows 365 days a year to keep them readily soft and kissable. The skin on the lips is a lot thinner and sensitive than our bodies so we need to be mindful of the products we use to address the issues of cracked skin and dry lips. Take a gander at some of our picks to keep them pucker-iffic!
First step to soft lips is to exfoliate and there's nothing better or more yummy smelling than Sara Happ's Limited Edition Blood Orange Lip Scrub. Tiny, granular sugar crystals gently exfoliates flaky skin to leave lips incredibly soft and supple. One of my favorite products ever, this is gentle enough to use once a week. Try your best not to be tempted to eat any, it smells that enticing.
If you'd like to forego the step of needing a sink then Ilia's handy Lip Exfoliator comes in lipstick form and can be used daily. Organic ingredients blended with tiny granules of volcanic stone powder gently exfoliate lips. There's no need to rinse, simply follow up with a lip conditioner to seal in moisture.
For lip conditioning like no other may I tempt you and your wallet with By Terry's Baume de Rose SPF 15. This rose like no other (it smells of the classic flower), is a melt away balm that has become the must have of Hollywood stars because of its ability to repair, nourish, regenerate the lip area and leave a beautiful soft glossy sheen in it's wake. It can also be used as a salve to strengthen your cuticles!
Don't let lips go naked! You've buffed and conditioned them to perfection, now it's time to get them noticed with a hint of color with Kevyn Aucoin The Lip Gloss. Choose from 12 different shades from soft peach to the brightest blood red that will keep lips shiny and smooth without feeling greasy or slippery.

A lot of people underestimate how hard it is to find a foundation. It's like a second skin so you want it to feel like a part of you and finding that perfect facial companion is trickier than it seems. Although choosing a foundation is totally based on personal preference I've gathered a few of my favorite standouts to help you navigate through the endless choices of a woman's go to cosmetic product:
Ellis Faas Skin Veil Pen has made it through my checklist for numerous reasons. For one, the silky smooth, barely there formulation covers up flaws and leaves skin looking incredibly radiant. Secondly, for those who don't want to use fingers or a sponge, the application of this product is made so efficient due to it's applicator brush that allows you to get in between nostril curves and facial contours. Minerals diffuse light across the skin's surface reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles!
Although I'm not technically able to call it a foundation, Jouer's Luminizing Moisture Tint is more like a tinted moisturizer but gives great coverage if you have unproblematic skin. It evens out uneven skin tone and also camouflages fine lines with light diffusing ingredients while also protecting from harmful UV rays with SPF 20!
Christened the makeup foundation for dummies, By Terry's Light Expert Perfecting Foundation Brush is an anti-blemish, anti-shadow and anti-dullness formulation that instantly illuminates the face. It's featherweight texture can be deceiving because it actually gives deceptive coverage and hyaluronic acid microspheres work to plump up wrinkles for an instant lifting effect.
For those who like a thicker coverage, a staff favorite as well as Kim Kardashian's is Kevyn Aucoin's Sensual Skin Enhancer. Housed in a tiny jar, we prefer to apply this product with fingertips rather than a sponge due to it's thicker consistency and ability to warm it up by massaging it through your fingertips for better application. It can be used as a concealer or for the perfect highlighter as well! One thing you can rely on is complete coverage at all times. Our suggestion is that less is more with the Sensual Skin Enhancer. Apply to a freshly moisturized and primed skin and apply more as desired.

Fall is famous for color, which makes it the perfect time to adopt a new one yourself. Lipstick is a great accessory that can be bold, complementary or even work as a natural enhancement. Pucker up for this week’s top picks; b-glowing staff adores these lipsticks for the fall season.
BY TERRY Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge, Fatal Shot: It plumps, moisturizes, disguises wrinkles and fine lines and finishes with a subtle gloss. Available in 15 colors, you can switch up your look daily, or stick to one hue for the season. For fall, our staff loves Fatal Shot: It’s a great berry color that looks playful without being too pinky.
ELLIS FAAS Creamy Lips, Blood Red: An easy, smooth application stains lips without the sticky feeling. You’ll get full coverage with a creamy finish, courtesy of a spongy applicator. We love the Blood Red color because it helps make a seductive statement without going overboard. It’s a good red for fall because it has a touch of brown, which tones it down for the perfect shade.
ILIA LIPSTICK, Funnel of Love: ILIA shades are beautifully modern with organic ingredients. The tones are generally more subtle, with a few pops of bold color, but they can all be layered so you can create your personal shade. Funnel of Love is a warm, nude shade for when you want some color that won’t clash with a smokey eye; or it’s great just for a natural palate.
KEVYN AUCOIN The Matte Lipsticks, Persistence: The color and the moisture last all day. Plus, the formula contains ingredients that minimize wrinkles over time, guaranteed. We love Persistence because it’s a fun, bold color that’ll turn heads! The more edgy violet color is perfect for the girl who likes to shake it up a bit.

“Perfection is boring. If a face doesn’t have mistakes, it’s nothing.”
This refreshing, unexpected quote from Kevyn Aucoin represents the central struggle and triumph in this makeup innovator’s tragically short life.
Kevin Aucoin’s childhood and early adulthood were marked by rejection and violence. Yet rather than give in to self-pity, he survived incessant bullying, moved to New York and eventually became one of the most sought-after makeup artists of our time. Celebrities so respected his work that he earned as much as $10,000 for a single magazine shoot. He published several gorgeous best-selling guides on makeup, and his own line of cosmetics thrives past his death, in 2002, of painkillers he took to cope with a rare pituitary tumor. Yet this “rags-to-riches” life story is more than just one of wild success – it’s also about vision, passion and drive.
Makeup was always a central focus in Kevyn Aucoin’s life. As a child, he frequently did his sisters’ makeup and recorded the results with a Polaroid camera. (He continued this habit throughout his life; the inside covers of his best-selling book Making Faces features dozens of these Polaroids from throughout Aucoin’s career.) His childhood home of Lafayette, La., wasn’t very tolerant of Kevin Aucoin’s unusual preferences for gentle activities over more traditional male hobbies. At the age of six, Aucoin realized that he was gay, and the bullying began in earnest.Read More »
