The ingredients that make for a great day of skiing – sun, wind rushing by your face, high altitudes and cold temperatures – can do a real number on your skin. Below, we examine how each of these elements damages skin. We also provide recommendations on how to protect your skin before heading to the mountains, and how to best nourish it after a hard day of skiing, snowboarding or sledding.
Red, irritated skin is a common aftereffect of a snow play day. When wind blows on the same patch of exposed skin over the course of a day, windburn can occur. Like sandpaper tearing up wood pulp, the friction imposed by wind can chafe your skin and, in extreme conditions, cause blistering.
To protect your skin against the wind, be sure to apply a moisturizer before leaving for the resort or trail. Ultra Comfortable Face Cream, by Nuxe Paris, is an excellent choice. It contains Vitamin E and sunflower derivatives to protect against wind and other external irritants.Read More »
Orange peel, lipedema, cellulite, cottage cheese – whatever you call it, one thing’s certain: No woman on the planet longs for more cellulite. It may surprise you to learn that the term “cellulite” is not medically inspired. It gained popularity in French salons around the end of the nineteenth century, and it describes the bumpy, dimpled, inconsistent appearance of the skin above fat deposits.
Doctors say cellulite is actually quite natural – they say this uneven skin surface is found in 90 percent of post-pubescent females and that it simply indicates a breakdown in the connective tissue around fat cells. Cellulite is more noticeable on the female form because female skin tissue is thinner than male skin tissue. Still, it’s hard to convince women to simply accept their cellulite as a natural occurrence. Society has long derided “cottage cheese ” skin as ugly and undesirable.
Fortunately, those who wish to banish cellulite may do so by applying the techniques listed below.
Cellulite is exacerbated when one’s fat cells are swollen with extra sugar. Salt is also problematic because it encourages fluid retention, making cellulite look even worse. To limit the appearance of cellulite, eat no more than six teaspoons of sugar and 200 mg of sodium each day.
To see a noticeable reduction of cellulite, apply a firming lotion or cream. Of course, you’ll want to select a product that’s user-approved to firm skin and improve its structure. Nuxe Paris has created a lotion that fits the bill perfectly. Its Body Fondant Firming Cream includes barley sugars and Brazilian mimosa to instantly lift skin, thereby decreasing cellulite dimples. Nuxe Paris’ cellulite solution also contains rye flakes and Kigelia Africana to improve skin structure. After using this product for 28 days, 86 percent of users reported that their skin was more toned, while 82 percent said it was visibly smoother.
To prepare your skin for cellulite solutions from Nuxe Paris and other brands, apply a body exfoliator such as Fat Girl Scrub from Bliss. The Bliss Fat Girl Scrub increases circulation and is specially formulated for cellulite-prone areas.
Muscle is smoother than fat. If you lift weights regularly, your cellulite levels will drop. Lunges, leg presses and squats are particularly powerful cellulite-busting exercises.Read More »
Cosmetics pamper us. They make us feel beautiful. Many women cherish the time spent applying cosmetics; putting on lipstick and slathering on lotions makes them feel luxurious. Makeup and skin care products make us feel we are taking care of ourselves in a special way. Yet many cosmetic products contain dangerous ingredients. Below, we list three unhealthy ingredients commonly found in cosmetics.
While many women have heard the rumor that many lipsticks contain lead, few realize that independent and FDA studies have verified that this urban legend is true. Lead is a neurotoxin that builds up in the body over time. Research suggests that lead poisoning contributes to lowered IQ, increased aggression and diminished school performance. Considering that most women wear lipstick on a daily basis, the potential for lead poisoning is very real.
You may be aware of lead’s toxicity thanks to public education campaigns on lead-based paints. The EPA regulates renovation activities to prevent lead exposure, which is especially threatening to young children, whose brains are still developing. Yet because the FDA does not conduct pre-market testing for cosmetics, lipstick manufacturers are not prevented from putting lead in their products. Fortunately, a few manufacturers now offer lead-free lipsticks.
If you’re looking for a luscious, safe product to nourish your lips following years of lead-filled lipsticks, look no further than Reve de Miel ultra-nourishing lip balm from Nuxe Paris. Safe enough for children aged 36 months and up, this Nuxe Paris product uses grapefruit peel oil as a preservative rather than parabens – which, as explained below, may cause cancer.
The skin on your lips is one of the most sensitive parts of your body. In spite of their gentleness, lips undergo a lot of abuse – from sun exposure to cold blasts of wind to excessively dry weather. If you don’t take care of your lips, they can become chapped or crack, leaving them the opposite of kissable. Caring for them with the ingredients found in a natural lip balm, such as RODIN Olio Lusso lip balm, can keep your kisser soft and hydrated. Here are some other benefits you’ll receive from regularly using your favorite lip balm:Read More »
Even though Earth Day is a calendar event that happens once a year, it doesn’t mean you can’t have sustainable practices the remaining 364 days. After all, you should be a good steward every day you are on this planet. Sure, you may already recycle your used plastic, metal and glass items, but you can take your earth-friendly endeavors a step further by purchasing EPP eco-friendly hair care products. Some popular, high-end brands, like Adara and Nuxe Paris, are already on board the EPP wagon.
Short for Environmentally Preferable Purchasing, EEP means you consider more than just the environmental impact of the products you purchase. EPP also has a humanitarian concern, which means the manufacturing of a product also protects the health of those who make and consume eco-friendly hair care products, without sacrificing quality, price or performance. When you’re an EPP advocate, you also abstain (as best you can) from purchasing items whose manufacturing process harms public health or the environment.Read More »

Achieving the perfect bronze isn't as easy as you would think. Plus, there's a fine line between going overboard with the self tanner and gold eyeshadow and looking like you're just perfectly sun kissed. Whether you're wanting to enhance an existing tan or give yourself a beautiful golden glow, I think it's safe to say that the Nuxe Paris Multi Usage Dry Oil can do no wrong.
It was just featured in July's Allure magazine as part of the 6 steps to achieve a stunning 'head to toe bronze.' Although they've suggested running a few drops of the oil throughout your hair to add a pretty golden sheen and smooth flyaways this super conditioning dry oil can also be used as a body moisturizer. I love to apply it on my décolleté, collarbone and tops of shoulders to create that gorgeous summer glow and also deeply condition my skin. Tiny mother of pearl particles creates the luminosity while bronzing dry oil softly enhances your tan to perfection.

I love it when friends share their beauty secrets with each other. Recommendations from someone you trust are like gold and recommendations from beauty editors or tastemakers is even better. After all, trusted friends and industry pros will never steer you wrong. As I was flipping through the pages of this months Harper's Bazzar (with Rhi-Rhi on the cover) I fell upon their 'Beauty Diaries' feature showcasing different fashionable women of all ages sharing their secrets to getting better with age. DJ and entrepreneur Hannah Bronfman is a 20 year old stylish gal who also happens to have great taste in beauty. Not only does she swear by By Terry's Baume de Rose to keep lips soft and supple but also Nuxe Paris Huile Prodigieuse Multi Use Dry Oil Shimmer on her legs to condition the skin and enhance them with a subtle glow. Tom Hanks wife Rita Wilson was also featured in the 50's section sharing that her signature scent is Tom Ford's Black Orchid. She also doesn't let gray roots get her down, but instead fights them off in an instant with Oscar Blandi's Colore Root Touch Up & Highlighting Pen.

It's summer! As you swap-out pants and sweaters for more skin-baring apparel, you will probably be reaching for that self-tanner bottle as well! Before you go to town with sunless tanning products, check out our top tips for a natural, streak-free application that will have you beautifully bronzed in no time.
Prepping your face and body for self-tanning is just as, if not more, important than the actual application itself.
Exfoliate: Tanning solution appears darker on dry, rough patches because those areas soak-in more product. Exfoliating your entire body prior to application, paying special attention to elbows and knees, will yield an overall even result. Try (1) He-Shi Exfoliating Body Wash to remove dead skin cells from face and body.
Shave: Make sure to do any shaving prior to applying self-tanners, as razors are a form of exfoliation, shaving can fade your tan faster. We recommend (2) Shaveworks Pearl Soufflé Shave Cream from Anthony Logistics for a close shave that slows hair growth and reduces ingrown hairs.
Staff Tip: Use Rosebud Salve on cuticles, nails, and toes to protect them from the tanning solution. It gives the overall tan a more natural appearance.
Now that you are prepped, you are ready to apply your sunless tanning solution of choice. Our staff favorite is (3) St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. Winner of the 2013 Allure Magazine Readers' Choice Award for prestige self-tanner, the golden color appears instantly, and doesn't have that tell-tale "tanning" smell. Using a Tanning Mitt for application will ensure a streak-free tan, and prevent product-soaked palms that look less than natural.
Apply: Using long, even strokes, apply the product starting with your legs. Work from thigh to knee to calf, blending into the ankle, then slightly onto the top of the foot and toes. Once the legs are perfected, move to hips, stomach, and chest, blending into neck. Finish the process with the shoulders, moving down the arm, into the wrist, and blending onto the top of the hand and fingers.
Staff Tip: When applying self-tanner, complete each body part thoroughly before moving to the next. Skipping around will lead to missed areas and light spots. If you notice any streaks or dark spots, a small amount of water can be used to even-out the product.
Once your product application is complete, wait 4-6 hours before sweating, showering, or swimming. We recommend self-tanning at night before bed so your tan can develop overnight, and you can shower off the excess product in the morning.
Maintain: You can always add more layers of solution to get a darker tone, touch-up spots you missed, or create definition. Keeping your skin moisturized is key to prolonging the look of your sunless tan. Dry skin can cause the color to slough off, creating a "crackled" effect, and looking less natural.
Staff Tip: Use (4) Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse shimmer oil to keep skin hydrated and golden. It smells delicious and the shimmer sparkles in the sun, great for skirts and shorts!
Beauty experts are given that title for a very specific reason. With years of experience within the industry they've been able to develop a reputation for beautiful results and their word is like gospel. This month in Elle magazine the 2013 Genius Awards were announced compiling the best in hair, makeup and skincare revealing the products they can't be without. Hair stylist Ben Skervin swears by Mason Pearson's Nylon & Boar Bristle Brush to 'create good tension for a smooth blow-out.' Their brushes will literally last you a lifetime and you don't have to worry about a shine spray since their special bristles will spread sebum evenly over the hair strands.
A Nuxe Paris best seller and staff favorite, makeup artist Nicolas Degennes loves to apply Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil Golden Shimmer to the décolleté for a healthy sheen. Tiny mother of pearl particles rest on the skin and give off a subtle sheen when sunlight is reflected off of it. It also enhances your summer tan!
