Papier Poudre was first introduced in 1907.
The reason for this need was that during the late 'Victorian' and the 'Edwardian' Era ladies would powder their faces at their dressing tables and this would have to last for the whole period they were away from their homes. The powder compact was not generally available and, in any case, it was considered improper to wear make-up in public. Therefore these blotting papers were devised. They could be easily carried in a lady's handbag and used discreetly without a mirror.
The use of Papier Poudre continued and it only waned in the late 1920's when the modern powder compact was introduced and the young ladies of that time broke with tradition by beginning to wear make-up in public.
Meanwhile, the product was introduced into the Orient in the 1920's where the more modern Western Customs were not acceptable. The ladies of these countries found Papier Poudre blotting papers as useful as did the ladies of the 'Victorian' Era in the Western countries. Since those days the demand in the Orient has continued and Papier Poudre still remains widely in use today.
