Hi ladies, your Beauty BFF here. Like any good girlfriend, I’m here to deliver the truth, and help you make educated (and empowered) choices. In this case, I’m here to recommend an amazing ingredient known to give you glowing skin: Glycolic Acid.
This was a super easy blog to write because I’m an absolute fan of Glycolic Acid, and could seriously talk your ear off about its benefits (so, call me if you have any additional Q’s after reading my tips below).
Glycolic Acid…ok, on the outset, it can sound a little daunting. Really? Put acid on my skin? Don’t worry. This ingredient can vastly change the appearance and wellness of your skin…even for those living on the sensitive side.
The Goods on Glycolic Acid
Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (or AHA) that is derived from sugar. It’s the smallest of the AHA’s and is therefore the most easily penetrable of the acids. It essentially (and painlessly) burns off the skin cells at a microscopic level, and reveals newer, less damaged skin. It’s super popular in cosmetics because it dissolves the top layer of skin, revealing younger skin cells beneath.
The result is a luminous glow, more even skin tone, and regulated oil production. Upon application, you may feel a painless tingling sensation; that’s how you know it is working to remove fine lines and reverse damage.
Different GA Percentages for Targeted Use
Most cosmetics that contain Glycolic Acid have around 4% – 10% for at-home use. If that isn’t enough for you, a peel that contains Glycolic Acid may be what you need to get the job done. Peels can contain up to 70% of this wonder ingredient, but should be applied by a skincare professional and only left on for a few minutes.
Ready to get that luminosity that only Glycolic Acid can give? Here are a couple of my personal b-glowing favorites. Use as directed, and make sure to use SPF after applying!
