Today is International Women's Day, a day set aside to celebrate women and their achievements around the world. It's also a time to reflect on places and situations where women's rights and equality still have a long way to go.
I'm lucky to work in an industry that's filled with women, but inequalities exist even in the world of beauty. While the beauty business is full of women in entry level and middle management positions, the numbers are dismal at the executive level. Despite the fact that most beauty brands cater to women, the sad reality is, very few are led by them.
The theme of this year's International Women's Day is #PledgeForParity?. According to the World Economic Forum, it will take 117 years for women to achieve parity. To me—and everyone at b-glowing—this is unacceptable. Issues of parity—such as closing the gender gap and advocating for gender-balanced leadership—have always been near to my heart. In fact, one of our New Year's resolutions was to continue to highlight the amazing achievements of women. Through our #FemaleFounders and #SheGlows series, we honor the cause of parity, giving female innovators a platform to speak out and share their experiences.
Today, we celebrate women—but we're not going stop the celebration when International Women's Day is over. We live this, each and every day.
