Tried + Tested: Eve Lom Cleanser

Get the Limited Edition 450ml Eve Lom Cleanser before it's gone!

When it comes to Eve Lom Cleanser, women fall into one of two camps: they either haven't heard of the 25-year-old cult favorite, or they're completely obsessed with it. I admit to starting off in the first category, and after using it every night for a week, I've moved firmly to the second group. Yet the first time using it can be pretty surprising, especially if you've never tried a balm cleanser.

Opening the jar, you'll find a chunky, oily, light green substance that seems more “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shell protector” than “life-transforming beauty product,” but stay with me. The scent is an acquired taste, bracing and strongly botanical thanks to its clove, eucalyptus, hops and Egyptian chamomile oils—but those oils are exactly what soften skin beyond belief. You warm the balm between your fingers and apply it to your face in a circular motion, then use the warm, wet muslin cloth that comes with the cleanser and feel it instantly transform, the oily slickness rinsing away.

Since the cleanser also exfoliates, it makes my skin feel incredibly soft. Though women with acne can be oil-phobic, this cleanser leaves my skin with fewer bumps without that dry, stripped feeling that you get from typical acne washes. Its clove oil has antiseptic properties to encourage clear skin, and I find its chamomile soothes any redness; it also calms flaking and peeling on dry areas, since my skin can be both dry and oily depending on the spot. This cleanser saves me time because now I can skip my eye makeup remover step, even for waterproof mascara, because the cleanser's oils break down and sweep away any raccoon-eye leftovers.

After a few days, I actually began to look forward to the herbal scent, because I knew that a minute later, I'd have my cleanest, softest skin. See? One week from Eve Lom newbie to obsessed.

    1. The natural color of this cleanser does have a slight green tint to it, that’s normal for this cleanser.
