On the off-chance I have time for a facial, I always tell the esthetician working on me that my skin is extremely sensitive. Each time, that warning is met with a “sure, everyone thinks that” attitude, but—after the facial is over—they’re always shocked at just HOW sensitive my skin is. And of course, I’m stuck walking around with a (really) red face for the rest of the day.
I’ve been lucky enough to work at b-glowing for 10 years, and have tried and tested all the best skincare to find what’s right for my fussy face. Now that I’m in my mid-30’s, my primary mission is trying to reverse sun damage and wrinkles. I wanted to boost my skincare routine with Retinol, but I knew it wasn’t usually recommended for delicate skin. That’s when I decided to try Verso Skincare, which claims to be suitable for all skin types, even super sensitive skin like mine.
Why Verso and What is Retinol 8?
When I discovered that Verso’s patented Retinol 8 formulas are 8x more effective—and less irritating— than standard Retinol products, knew I was on the right track. Each Verso product has a unique concentration of Retinol 8, which has been clinically proven to smooth the appearance of wrinkles, strengthen the skin barrier, produce collagen, reduce pigmentation and supply the skin with more energy and oxygen. Basically, everything my skin needs right now. Also, I’m a recent Kon Marie convert, so I love how their gorgeous and minimalist packaging looks on my vanity.
Is Verso Natural?
While you won’t find Verso in our natural category, it’s carefully formulated without the use of damaging parabens or mineral oils. I’ve always said, I’ll opt for natural as long as I can get results, and I appreciate that they’ve made such a fantastic and efficient anti-aging line without the use of harmful ingredients. They also package each product in a hygienic, airless pump to keep it from oxidizing or being exposed to bacteria, which I love.
Verso and Sensitive Skin
While Verso claims to be safe for sensitive skin, it’s important to remember that “sensitive” is a spectrum, and this product really does pack a punch. The brand recommends doing a patch test of the products on your forearm before using. Some of the formulas—like the Verso Super Facial Serum—are more concentrated, and were too strong for me during the patch test. Therefore, I wound up leaving it out of my routine.
Here’s what I did use:
Verso 1 Foaming Cleanser
This super unique formula almost feels like a cross between a gel and a cream cleanser. It’s a white gel that cuts through impurities and leaves your skin feeling clean and pure. It takes some effort to get this to actually foam, but even when it doesn’t, your skin is left feeling like a perfect, clean canvas, ready for some high-impact skincare.
Verso 2 Day Cream
Love this texture! I felt like my skin was glowing after just one use. I was a little surprised to see that it didn’t contain SPF, since I’ve always heard you need to apply it daily when using Retinol. To play it safe, I did use my Supergoop! SPF Setting Mist after makeup. I love the dewy look I get from this cream, but it’s definitely not for those who like a matte base for day.
Verso 3 Night Cream
This night cream was my favorite product in the line. I loved how hydrating it was, while also providing the brightness I craved. This is the kind of night cream you put on before bed, and wake up looking amazing.
Verso 6 Dark Spot Fix
Here’s where I decided to really put Verso to the test. This year, I developed a huge, noticeable dark spot just below my left cheekbone, and I used this concentrated corrector for about three months. I actually did see a significant improvement of the spot, and have only used about 1/4 of the bottle. I hope it keeps getting better with continued use, but here’s my no-makeup, no-filter, before and after pic of that particular spot after 12 weeks of daily use:
Verso Super Eye Serum
I’ll be honest: I was terrified of putting retinol around my eyes. As we’ve already established, retinol can be irritating, so imagine using it on the most sensitive part of your already very sensitive skin? I feared watering, redness, and itchy skin, but surprisingly, Verso’s eye cream was super gentle. The light gel texture was soothing on contact, deeply hydrating my skin with a hefty dose of hyaluronic acid. And as someone who carries a lot of baggage under her eyes, I am happy to report that this serum really did help reduce dark circles, de-puff, hydrate, and smooth skin.
After my 12 weeks with Verso, I definitely feel like my skin is brighter, more hydrated and youthful looking overall. Even with my sensitive skin, I will continue to use Verso. I sometimes alternate use to every other day if I start to feel any irritation or dryness, but I will probably always have that Night Cream on my vanity.
Please note: This is just one person’s experience with using Verso Skincare, and results may vary from skin type to skin type. If you have extremely reactive or delicate skin, you may wish to speak to a dermatologist before trying.
