Velvet. Metallic. Satin. Gloss. This season, we’re falling for textures. As fashion juxtaposes with sheer chiffon and black leather, we’re pairing deep, velvety lips with soft metallics and dewy skin. The result is both sensual and striking: a bold, vampy look that strikes the perfect balance between darkness and light.
Before applying lipstick or liner, be sure to prep and prime your lips. We exfoliated with Sarah Happ’s Lip Scrub, then applied a thin layer of Oribe's Balmessence Lip Treatment.
For dark lipstick, liner is must. Think of it like insurance for your lipstick—it provides a barrier that prevents feathering or bleeding, and creates a dried base to make the color last longer. First, line your lips with OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE COSMETICS Cosmetic Colour Pencil in Black Dahlia, then lightly fill in the rest of your pout. Pro tip: while applying, move your chin up and down to see all your angles better, and ensure your lines are super symmetrical.
To create a glowing base, prime skin with Becca's Backlight Priming Filter, then reach for reach for Kevyn Aucoin’s The Etherealist Skin Illuminating Foundation. Apply a small amount to the center of the face, and gently blend outward using the KA Foundation Brush. Or—for an extra dewy look—rub the formula between hands to warm it up, and gently press into skin with your fingers.
Add extra light and radiance with It Cosmetics Hello Light Anti-Aging Crème Radiance Illuminator. Dab on the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, cupid’s bow, brow bone, and anywhere else you wish to highlight. You can use your fingers or a beautyblender to press the formula into skin.
To balance out the darkness of the lip, add warmth to your face with Stila’s Convertible Color in Peony. Start on the apples of your cheeks, gently blending the blush from cheekbones to temples. Continue to blend the pigment and build up the color until you’ve reached your desired hue.
To start, give brows a little definition and polish with an eyebrow gel. Unlike pencils and powders, this formula grips onto brow hairs—like what a mascara does for your lashes—to create natural thickness, while keeping stray hairs in place.
Next, the lids. Start with RMS Sunset Beach SB-48. Using the Beauty Powder Eye Shadow Brush, apply the shadow all over the eyelid, taking color up into the eye socket and extending it slightly to elongate the shape of the eye. Over SB-48, layer and blend RMS GR-13 to give it depth and dimension. Finally, apply RMS Enchanted Moonlight EM-64 around the contour to add intensity and open up eyes.
Finish with your eyes with a sweep of IT COSMETICS Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara.
